Looking for a positive spin on things?

"Let me entertain you," Mayva Kottke of Crow Wing Lake Campground sang laughing.

They're singing your tune at RV, Vacation & Camping show inside the Minneapolis Convention Center.

"We've had a tremendous spring and we're looking forward to carrying it through after this show," Mark Petterson of Coates RV said.

Despite coming off a down year in the industry, the attitude here is upbeat.

"We're encouraged," Petterson added.

They're encouraged by a new study that calls RV vacations the most economical option, costing 50 percent less than a car-hotel trip and 70 percent less than by plane.

"Family togetherness is what we try to promote," Mike Pero of Hilltop Trailer Sales said.

So besides the price, folks like Pero are selling the RV lifestyle and the industry's new luxuries.

"There's no better way to get out there and enjoy the family than the comfort of RV'ing," Pero continued.

The RVs at the show are filled with more amenities and at the same time lighter than ever.

"Can be towed by a mini-van," Pero said of an trailer that collapses down for transport.

The question now is will buyers hitch one up and head on down the road. Again, these dealers are optimistic.

"This is an economical thing you can do with the family and go and make memories galore," Kottke said.

Pero, who's family's Hilltop Trailer Sales has survived gas shortages and oil embargos, agrees. "If we can sell trailers at a time when you cannot get gas, you can sell trailers now."

The RV, Vacation & Camping Show runs through Sunday at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
