RVIA will host a seminar entitled “Current Issues in Designing Trailers” on
The five-hour training session will be led by Richard Klein, Harley Holt, and David Kinder. Richard Klein, P.E.
Richard Klein is a mechanical and aerospace engineer with more than thirty years of experience in the areas of combination vehicle dynamics, stability and control, handling qualities, and driver behavior. He has conducted extensive trailer research for the NHTSA and has written over a dozen industry and SAE technical papers on trailer handling, stability, and braking. He was the Consulting Engineer for the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers for thirteen years, and currently provides technical services to many trailer manufacturers and industry associations.
Harley Holt has more than 40 years of experience in all areas of automotive safety, regulatory testing and emissions-related Federal and State regulatory activities. He also was RVIA's Director of Automotive Standards for many years. He currently serves as President, Harley Holt and Associates, Inc., a business that provides consulting on regulatory, environmental, and safety issues to the automotive industry.
David Kinder, Esq. is a partner with Cox Smith, a Texas-based law firm, and has represented RV trailer manufacturers in cases involving claims related to travel trailer stability and rollovers. He has extensive experience, and can offer practical advice that will benefit our membership.
The seminar will include discussions on how to:
· Initiate the design of a trailer
· Identify the critical sway stability factors of trailer design
· Reduce tongue weight without compromising stability
· Determine and use the applicable industry standards effectively
· Use prototype testing in more effective ways
· Get your technical staff to better understand the major points of trailer stability in the design process and why they are important
· Effectively document the trailer design process
· Educate dealers and consumers regarding trailer use information
