RVIA, NATM Hosting Free Webinar on NHTSA Defect Investigations

RVIA is teaming with the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers to host a free webinar for more than 300 members of the two associations today, Jan. 15, that is focusing on NHTSA Defect Investigations and Record Retention Requirements.

Engineers and lawyers working for RV manufacturers, trailer manufacturers or supplier companies as well as company personnel responsible for compliance with NHTSA rules and regulations are participating in the webinar.

“This seminar is providing RVIA and NATM members the opportunity to better understand the structure of NHTSA and the Office of Defect Investigations (ODI),” said Bruce Hopkins, RVIA vice president of standards. “Attendees are gaining valuable insight and information on how and why NHTSA investigations are conducted; a company’s responsibility when receiving a request for an investigation from NHTSA; and, the rules and procedures that apply to federal early warning reporting requirements.

The webinar’s featured presenters are Bruce York, NHTSA Division Chief, Medium and Heavy Duty Vehicles Division; Nate Seymour, Safety Defect Investigator; and R. Nicholas Englund, Litigation and Enforcement Division, Office of Chief Counsel.  The trio is discussing the roles of NHTSA and ODI and reviewing key federal statutes and regulations, including: Title 49, United States Code, Chapter 301 ‐ Motor Vehicle Safety; Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Title 49 – General; CFR, Title 49 ‐ Sec 576, re Records Retention, OEM and Component Suppliers Investigations and Early Warning Reporting; and CFR, Title 49 ‐ Sec 579.5, re Notices, Bulletins, Customer Satisfaction Campaigns, Consumer Advisories and Other Communications.
