Green Innovations, RV Savings Highlighted in National Media

Travel authority Peter Greenberg, known for his popular reports on CBS' The Early Show and currently the travel editor at large for AARP, was in  Aspen, Colo., July 21 to report on the newest green innovations in the RV industry for AARP The Magazine and AARP.org.

Extensive information on RV travel’s environmental friendliness was provided to Greenberg by RVIA’s public relations team. He used this information as he toured an EverGreen travel trailer (pictured on the set, at right).  In the finished video, the production team also plans to include generic footage from RVIA’s video library.  The green RV video will be online in September.

Greenberg, a recipient of RVIA’s Distinguished Achievement in Journalism Award, has also written a short article on green RVing to be a part of his regular column in AARP The Magazine. The magazine’s 24.3 million readers will be able to read this story in the September/October issue.

“These stories will show prospects that our industry is being responsive to today’s more ecologically-conscious consumer,” said Gary LaBella, RVIA vice president and chief marketing officer.

The message that RV travel is the best value this summer was also picked up prominently in recent weeks.  On July 31, NBC Today aired an excellent road trip segment citing RVIA’s vacation cost comparison study results and plugging GoRVing.com.  The segment featured an interview with a Travel and Leisure magazine editor who told viewers of the substantial cost savings associated with RV travel.

An RV travel version of the ubiquitous nutrition label found on foods is also grabbing the attention of reporters. The mock label, shown on RVIA's website here, highlights the significant cost savings families enjoy when they travel by RV vs. flying, renting a car and staying in a hotel.  One MSNBC reporter praised the eyecatching presentation as “brilliant.”
