During the Annual Membership Meeting at the Boca Raton Resort and Club on March 2, in Boca Raton, FL, RVIA honored industry leaders who have made outstanding contributions to the association and the RV industry last year.
“It is an honor to recognize these industry leaders for their tremendous achievements across a wide variety of areas that have helped the RV industry continue to move forward,” said RVIA Chairman of the Board Bob Parish.
David J. Humphreys RV Industry Unity Award – Tim DeWitt, the former executive director of the Michigan Association of Recreation Vehicles and Campgrounds (MARVAC), received the David J. Humphreys RV Industry Unity Award, presented jointly by RVIA and RVDA, to recognize those who strive to encourage the multiple constituencies of the RV industry to work collectively for the growth and betterment of the RV industry.
“Through his work at MARVAC, with the Go RVing Coalition and in industry education efforts, Tim was untiring and unfaltering in his passion to advance the RV industry,” said Parish. “He continually worked to foster a productive, cooperative environment among RV manufacturers and dealers, understanding that our future success rests in our ability to overcome inevitable differences to find consensus and common ground.”
RVIA Special Award – RVIA’s Special Award is presented to those within the RV industry who have made extraordinary contributions to its overall success. Dave Schutz of Dometic was honored for his many contributions in a wide variety of roles at RVIA, including his service as a member of the Board of Directors and on several committees.
Chairman Parish singled out his tenure as chairman of the Market Information Committee as particularly impactful. “Dave has very skillfully guided the important work of this group to collect and provide reliable, actionable RV market data that is of paramount importance to our members who rely on that information to augment their knowledge of the RV market and develop business plans,” he said.
National Education Service Award – Recognizing those who are instrumental in the development of educational programs in the RV industry, the National Education Service Award was presented to Debbie Brunoforte of Little Dealer, Little Prices.
Brunoforte is currently serving on the RVDA/RVIA Certification Governing Board and serves as co-chair for the RV Service Training Council where she has played a key role in developing the programs and strategies to advance the RV industry’s education efforts.
“Debbie is a strong advocate for industry education and, that commitment extends beyond the meeting room,” said Parish. “She not only talks the talk on the importance of technician training and industry education; she also walks the walk by being one of the first dealers to require all of her technicians to be certified.”
The Distinguished Achievement in RV Standards Award – Leo Akins of Forest River, Inc. was presented the Distinguished Achievement in RV Standards Award, which honors those who have contributed to the enhancement of RV standards in the industry.
“Leo has been a long-time RVIA member and a very active and engaged volunteer on numerous association committees and subcommittees.” Parish said. “In serving on these groups and lending his vast knowledge and experience pertaining to RV design and production, he has provided invaluable guidance in the development of RV standards and policies.”
