Reston, Va.— RVIA's Board of Directors punctuated a week of prolific committee activity on June 14 by voting favorably on a wide range of committee recommendations that will help establish the association's agenda for the next year.

The Board actions, which came on the final day of Committee Week 2007 in Washington, D.C., were the result of recommendations from many of RVIA's standing committees, and involve most association functions.

The Board of Directors approved:
  • Adopting the 2008 editions of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 1192 Standard for Recreational Vehicles, and ANSI 12V Standard for Low Voltage Systems in Conversion and Recreation Vehicles. The new standards will become effective May 1, 2008 with enforcement beginning September 1, 2008.
  • The commission of a new research study focused on the RV service technician by the RVDA-RVIA Certification Governing Board, including a situational and needs assessment as well as demographic and psychographic components. The Board also supported a new career ladder for service technicians adopted by the RV Service Technician Council.
  • The FY2008 RV Market Expansion and Reinforcement Program, consisting of the Top-of-Mind Awareness Program and other media outreach initiatives.
  • Surveying members for data on their “green” product development initiatives and business practices to show how the industry is being environmentally responsible.
  • Hiring PKF Consulting to conduct an updated family vacation cost comparison study which will also examine the amount of energy consumed during RV vacations compared to other family vacations.
  • The continuation of the state travel and tourism outreach program by Dottie Maitland to promote and facilitate RV travel.
  • Publishing The 2006 Survey of Lenders’ Experiences and continuing the research project in 2008.
  • Offering a two-day admission ticket for the cost of a one-day ticket at the 2007 California RV Show.
  • Distributing the monthly Market Report electronically to members beginning January 1, 2008.
  • Adding new length categories of “under 17 feet” and between “17’ – 19’11” to conventional travel trailer reporting and categorizing Type C motorhome shipments by gasoline and diesel chassis, both effective January 1, 2008.
  • Appointing Jeff Rutherford, Carefree of Colorado, as vice chair and Janae Kurtz, Damon Corp., and Steve Evenson, Winnebago Industries, as members of the RVDA-RVIA Certification Governing Board.
