Outlook 2010 Will Examine PR Success in Difficult Environment

Attendees at RVIA’s "Outlook 2010: Let the Sun Shine” on Tuesday, December 1, in Louisville, Ky., will hear a detailed account of how RVIA’s media relations efforts kept the industry’s image strong and vibrant despite a pessimistic media environment and the gloomy economic conditions of the past year.

In a presentation titled RVIA Public Relations: “Keeping Our Image Bright,” RVIA PR Committee Chairman B.J. Thompson and RVIA Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Gary LaBella will discuss the strategies and messages used to generate positive publicity portraying RVs as popular, mainstream and relevant.

The two will also look ahead to what the media landscape may look like as the nation recovers from the economic downturn and offer advice on understanding and communicating with a post-recession consumer.  They will focus on four emerging trends that will define these consumers: Simplicity, Discretionary Thrift, Mercurial Consumption, and Living Green.

The PR presentation will also feature two guest speakers.  Silvio DiSalvatore, father of the family that won NBC’s hit summer reality show Great American Road Trip, will share tales about his family’s journey and detail why the RV trip was the best time he has ever had.

RV historian David Woodworth will receive RVIA’s Spirit of America Award for his nearly two decades of industry service as an enthusiastic ambassador and media spokesperson.  He will discuss plans for the RV Centennial celebration in 2010 and discuss how the industry has evolved over the past 100 years.  In addition, Woodworth will help lead the audience in special all-industry toast to the 100th Anniversary.

“Outlook 2010: Let the Sun Shine” will provide an energizing start to RVIA’s 47th Annual National RV Trade Show with a lineup of presentations that will stress a strong message of optimism as the RV industry looks to rebound in the coming year.  The free event will begin at 6:45 a.m. with a complimentary sit-down breakfast in the KEC South Wing C Mezzanine Ballroom.  Attendees are encouraged to come early as lines form well before the doors open.

"Outlook 2010" will be hosted by RVIA Chairman of the Board Jim Sheldon, and feature “Radiant, Relevant, and Ready,” RVIA President Richard Coon’s thoughts on how RVIA has helped the industry weather the storm and prepare for a new beginning.

In Go RVing: "Spreading Sunshine in '09 and Beyond,” Go RVing Coalition Co-Chairmen Dicky Riegel and Tom Stinnett will be joined by Gary LaBella to discuss how the Go RVing campaign stoked consumer demand in 2009.  The trio will also unveil new television spots and innovative website content scheduled for launch early next year.

The "Outlook 2010: Let the Sun Shine" program and breakfast are free for attendees on a first-come, first-served basis.  All National RV Trade Show attendees are welcome, and no reservations are necessary.
