RESTON, Va., March 2007 – During a meeting held Feb. 24 in Scottsdale, Ariz., the RVIA Board of Directors adopted a revised strategic plan developed by the Strategic Planning Committee to guide the association through 2009. The Vision and Mission Statements were amended (see page 10) while several new goals were adopted to address emerging issues and their impact on the association and industry.

Fuel was a key topic of discussion, particularly the effect of future conservation efforts on the availability of tow vehicles. “Having adequately powered, safe tow vehicles is crucial to our future,” said Monaco’s Jim Sheldon, chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee. “We have made it a priority to aggressively oppose unreasonable CAFE increases that would limit the availability and use of vehicles essential to the industry.”

Other notable goals added to the Strategic Plan included promoting the environmental compatibility of the RV lifestyle to address misperceptions about the RV industry; harmonizing U.S. and Canadian RV standards; and pursuing and developing opportunities for members to expand markets globally.

The Board also unanimously voted not to increase the cost for members to display at RVIA’s retail and trade shows, keeping space rates for the National RV Trade Show and California RV Show at current levels; however, the rate for non-member manufacturers exhibiting in Louisville will increase slightly. It was also decided to provide complimentary admission to the California RV Show for those 18 and younger who are accompanied by an adult.
