RV Shipments Rise 46% in 2010

RVIA reports that RV wholesale shipments continued their strong recovery with a total of 242,300 units shipped in 2010, the highest annual total for RV shipments in three years and a 46% increase over the 165,700 units shipped in 2009.

Towable units ended the year at 217,100 units, a 42% gain on the 152,500 towable units shipped in 2009. Meanwhile, motorhome shipments jumped by 91%, growing from 13,200 units in 2009 to 25,200 units in 2010.

“RV shipments ended the year on a high note providing momentum for the industry as we look to enjoy continued growth in 2011,” said RVIA President Richard Coon. “The strong shipment numbers underscores the improved level of dealer confidence in the retail environment for the upcoming year.”

The 242,300 units shipped in 2010 also eclipsed the year-end projection of 236,700 units provided by Dr. Richard Curtin last November in the Winter 2010 issue of RV Roadsigns, RVIA’s quarterly forecasting newsletter. RV wholesale shipments for 2011 were projected at that time to see moderate growth with total units hitting 246,000 units.

The Spring 2011 issue of RV Roadsigns detailing an updated industry forecast is expected to be available to the industry in late February.
