RVIA Board Sets Strategic Plan, Approves Canadian Coalition

The RVIA Board of Directors adopted a new Strategic Plan for the association during the group’s meeting on March 2 at the Loews Ventana Canyon Hotel in Tucson, Ariz.  The plan was recommended by the Strategic Planning Committee, which met two days earlier to review and update the long-term goals and objectives that will guide RVIA through 2011 and beyond.

Under the new plan, the Board reaffirmed the association’s vision statement that RVIA will be the proactive leader in promoting the health, growth and expansion of the RV industry and confirmed that the organization’s mission is to promote and protect its members and the RV industry by focusing on the following key goals:

•   Growing and expanding the RV market

•   Pursuing a favorable business environment for RVIA members

•   Promoting the health and wellbeing of RVIA

•   Creating a positive RV experience for all consumers

•   Providing industry information and knowledge

•   Fostering continuous improvement of RV products

“The Strategic Planning Committee headed by Doug Gaeddert did a fine job in adjusting and modifying our existing plan to address the current economic environment and marketplace,” said RVIA President Richard Coon. “This new plan addresses short-term objectives while setting the stage for long-term growth and success.”

During their meeting, the RVIA Board also approved the creation of a Canadian Coalition Committee and revised the By-laws to accommodate the association conducting business in Canada.

RVIA’s Canadian Coalition Committee will work alongside the RVDA of Canada and CRVA to help U.S. and Canadian manufacturers and dealers effectively coordinate efforts on important North American RV industry issues, such as the harmonization of the NFPA 1192 and Canadian Z240 RV standards and the coordination of federal and provincial legislative and regulatory lobbying efforts.

In other actions, the RVIA Board of Directors:

•   Approved the recommendations of the Standard's Steering Committee to adopt the 2011 edition of the NFPA 1192 Standard for Recreational Vehicles, which includes the 2011 National Electrical Code  and 2011 ANSI 12V Standard for Low Voltage Systems in Conversion and Recreational Vehicles, effective May 1, 2011 with a mandatory enforcement date of Sept. 1, 2011.

•   Approved a proposal to improve the RV Certification Testing Preparatory Course by adopting an RV Service Technician Career Ladder that outlines two paths to becoming a certified or master certified RV service technician.

•   Instructed staff to continue development of the proposed certified RV service centers for further consideration.

•   Voted to hold an Annual Meeting in February/March 2012 in Palm Springs, Calif.

The RVIA Board of Directors is next scheduled to meet at the association’s Committee Week on June 9, 2011 in Washington, D.C.
