MVP RV’s Williams Promotes RV Industry with Commerce Secretary Locke

MVP RV President and CEO Brad Williams helped promote the interests of the RV industry with the Obama administration by dedicating a portion of his allotted speaking time at a recent meeting with U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke to discuss several issues relevant to all industry companies.

The meeting, held March 29 on the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles, Calif., was the second stop on Locke’s “New Markets, New Jobs” small business outreach tour.  It was attended by hand-picked business and community leaders, including Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, USC Marshall School of Business Dean James G. Ellis, Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey, Comcast Corp. President Brian Roberts; and EastWest Bank President Julia Gouw.

Williams was invited to participate on the basis of MVP RV’s recent deal, worth $5 billion and expected to create more than 1,200 American jobs, to export more than 30,000 RVs to China in the next four years. Each attendee was given several minutes to speak at the event.  During his time, Williams discussed the MVP RV export deal, but also drew attention to general RV industry issues.

•   assist in urging China to adopt U.S. RV standards to further open the market to RV companies and boost RV industry exports.
•   consider how RVs could be used in overseas post-disaster operations, including medical clinics, emergency response vehicles, bathrooms and shower facilities, and temporary living units for disaster victims.

“We are very appreciative that Brad agreed to serve as an ambassador for the RV industry in this meeting with Secretary Locke by highlighting topics that are of importance to many companies,” said RVIA President Richard Coon. “This discussion was especially timely given that Secretary Locke will soon be the U.S. ambassador to China.”

“It was an honor and pleasure to represent the RV industry at this meeting,” said Williams.  “Boosting the export side of our industry will help us all continue our recovery and set the stage for further grow
