Jim Sheldon Honored for Service as RVIA Chairman

RVIA members celebrated Monaco RV’s Jim Sheldon’s service as the association’s Chairman of the Board from 2008 – 2010 during the association’s Committee Week, held June 6 – 9 at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, D.C.

At the Past Chairman’s Reception and Capitol Tour, held Monday, June 6, RVIA Chairman Gregg Fore of Dicor Corp. praised Sheldon’s leadership in holding the association together through “some very dark days as the RV market experienced one of its most severe downturns ever as a result of the global economic meltdown of 2008.”

“In looking back at that difficult time, we were fortunate to have Jim as chairman,” said Fore. “The industry was suffering and the association had the daunting challenge of facing a financial crunch while also providing assistance to members who needed RVIA more than ever. One thing that would not be compromised or downsized under his watch was the association’s commitment to protecting and serving the membership.”

Monaco RV President Kay Toolson also lauded Jim at the event for his career in the RV industry and his work with RVIA. “There is not a person who’s given more and who has cared more for our industry than Jim,” he said.

The following day at the RVIA Annual Membership Meeting, Fore along with Past Chairman Mel Adams of Airxcel and Carl Pfalzgraf of Atwood Mobile Products presented Sheldon with several gifts in recognition of his service, including the Chairman’s Award plaque, an RVIA Chairman’s ring and the gavel he used during his time in office. Sheldon’s wife, Toni, was also thanked for her support and given a crystal vase. On behalf of the RVIA staff, RVIA President Richard Coon gave Sheldon a scrapbook commemorating his term as chairman that included photos, press clippings, and letters of congratulations from association colleagues.

"Being chairman was a fun and rewarding experience" Sheldon said.  "We are in such good hands as members of RVIA because of the staff and the volunteers who give their time as committee and Board members.  It is humbling and gratifying to be a part of the association and the RV industry."
