RV Shipments Posts Gain In May

RV shipments continue to gain ground with total 2011 shipments reaching 117,300 units through May, an increase of nearly eight percent over the 108,900 units shipped through May 2010.

RVIA’s survey of manufacturers shows the motorhome market continuing to rebound with shipments growing to 12,400 units through May 2011, a 13% rise over the 11,000 shipped over the same period last year. Deliveries to retailers of all towable RVs also showed growth with a seven percent gain from 97,900 units through May last year to 104,900 units through this May.

On a seasonally-adjusted basis, May shipments were at an annualized rate of nearly 285,000 units, a 17% increase over April 2011 and the highest annualized rate so far this year.

At this point, RV shipments are trending slightly ahead of the year-end projections from Dr. Richard Curtin, director of the Survey of Consumers at the University of Michigan. In the Special 2011 issue of RV Roadsigns, RVIA’s quarterly shipment forecasting newsletter, he predicted shipments would rise to 260,200 units at the end of 2011, a 7.4% increase over the 242,300 units shipped in 2010.
