RV Shipments Surge in November

RV wholesale shipments were reported at 20,561 units in RVIA’s November 2012 survey of manufacturers, up 25.2% from the same month last year. Cumulative shipments for 2012 climbed to 266,789 units, a 13.3% increase over the 235,416 units shipped through the same 11-month time period in 2011.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, November’s shipment totals represented an annual rate of more than 360,000 units, an increase of nearly 10% over the previous month total and ahead of November 2011 by 26.1%.

Cumulative towable RV shipments through November totaled 240,734 units, a 13.5% gain over the 212,104 total reported last year. Truck camper shipments are up 21.8% to 3,205 units; travel trailers have gained 15.8% to 165,218 units; fifth wheel travel trailers have increased 10.9% to 61,734 units. Folding camping trailers saw a decline of 5.3% to 10,577 units.

Meanwhile, total motorhome shipments have enjoyed similar gains. Type A motorhomes are up 13.3% to 13,393 units; Type B motorhomes have risen by 11.3% to 1,968 units; and Type C motorhomes climbed 10% to 10,694 units. Overall, the motorhome segment is up 11.8% to 26,055 units through November.
