The RV Industry Association provides beneficial information and education to our membership regarding the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) established and maintained by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), a division of the United States Department of Transportation (DOT). These federal safety regulations apply to all vehicle manufacturers and their products. The RV Industry Association’s Standards Department regularly issues bulletins to inform all interested parties about items published in the Federal Register that may affect the RV Industry. The Association also routinely sponsors seminars for member companies featuring panels of experts and NHTSA representatives to provide education on how to properly identify and act on safety issues.
NHTSA’s website providing descriptions of and links to all FMVSS can be found here.
Because the FMVSS are federally mandated regulations, they are enforced directly by the federal government. The RV Industry Association has no jurisdiction over FMVSS and does not audit our members for compliance.
