RVIA President Frank Hugelmeyer Updates Members on Association Efforts

Speaking at RVIA's Annual Membership Meeting at the Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain in Tucson, AZ earlier this month, RVIA President Frank Hugelmeyer updated members on his focus since taking the helm of the association last October.

“For the past several months, I have been gathering as much information as possible from members and staff to create a roadmap that will position RVIA and the RV industry for long-term growth and success,” said Hugelmeyer. “This has included leading the association staff and leadership in critical self-evaluation to align the entire organization around our strategic priorities.”

He detailed several short-term goals for himself in 2016 that included maintaining RVIA’s strong-member value and core programming; meeting board-approved budgets; continuing to conduct comprehensive organizational analysis and data collection; establishing a long-term succession plan for each department; and delivering a three-year strategic plan to the RVIA Board of Directors.

He also examined a host of short- and long-term organizational goals.  For 2016, these include finalizing the proposed rule from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that exempts RVs from manufactured housing standards; expanding RV technical training throughout the country; implementing a member-engagement program that reaches at least “three-deep” into companies; and establishing a long-term succession plan in each department.

Meanwhile, RVIA’s Vision 2020 strategic long-range targets are achieving “three-deep” member relationships that reinforce the value of the association; providing technical service training to dealers representing 80% of North American RV sales; expanding the reach and success of Go RVing and RVIA’s public relations strategies; maintaining a membership that represents 98% of industry shipments; building greater recognition among members about the value of self-regulation of the RV industry safeguarded by RVIA; and, executing a successful, new National RV Show strategy.

Hugelmeyer reported that work is already underway to boost the National RV Trade Show with the RVIA Board of Directors approving a motion for an additional investment of up to $500,000 this year to drive increased attendance and provide enhancements to the event to generate excitement and add value for all attendees.

“The National RV Trade Show is the showcase event for our industry among very important internal and external audiences” he said. “Our focus will be on developing a robust plan starting this year that will revitalize the show and provide a valuable show experience for all constituents moving forward.”

Hugelmeyer concluded by saying that he is energized to work with the staff and members to build a shared vision for the future that includes RVIA’s wielding unprecedented political influence at the state and federal levels; the entire RV business community being diverse, united and connected; and RVs inspiring millions of urban consumers to reclaim the “American outdoor way of life.”
