Public Relations and Advertising Programs Honored by Peers

After receiving the top award in the Silver Inkwell Award competition in October, RVIA’s public relations programs along with the new Go RVing “Ambassadors of Affordability” website continue to be honored with awards from other prominent professional organizations.

The RV Industry Centennial program conducted by RVIA and its marketing communications agency, Barton Gilanelli & Associates, has garnered several prominent awards in 2010.  On Nov. 3, the initiative was honored by PR News in the media relations campaign category of their public relations competition.  RVIA was among an elite group of finalists in this category, which also included the National Football League, the American Cancer Society and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.

Additionally, the Association of Marketing & Communications Professionals has recognized the RV Industry Centennial publicity campaign with a Platinum MarCom Award, their highest honor.  The Philadelphia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) will honor RVIA and Barton Gilanelli with a first-place Pepperpot Award in December for the RV Industry Centennial program.

On the advertising side, the Go RVing national advertising campaign website, GoRVing.com, will be honored with a Silver Adrian Award from the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International in January. This year’s contest attracted nearly 1,100 entries from around the world.

As previously announced, RVIA’s media relations campaign to preserve the positive image and appeal of RVs during the recession received the top award on Oct. 26 in the prestigious Silver Inkwell competition, sponsored by the International Association of Business Communicators in Washington, DC/Baltimore.  With 130 entries vying for recognition, only five, including RVIA, won top Awards of Excellence, and RVIA’s program was selected as “Best of the Best” among all programs entered.

The accolades come as RVIA Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Gary LaBella’s 32-year career as head of the association’s marketing communications initiatives nears it end.  LaBella retires Dec. 31.

“We’re thrilled that our public relations and advertising colleagues are recognizing our programs,” LaBella said. “We have a superb team in place, doing stellar work on behalf of this great industry.”
