RV Shipments Climb in January

After strong growth throughout 2013, RV wholesale shipments continued to track upward in January albeit at a slower pace than last year due to severe winter weather conditions.

RV wholesale shipments tracked by RVIA totaled 25,467 units in the January survey of RV manufacturers, marking the best January total since 2007 and a 4.5% gain over last January.

Motorhomes were up 26.8% on shipments of 3,268 units, raising this category to 12.8% of all RV shipments this month. Towable RV shipments were 22,199 units in January, 1.8% better than one year ago.

Severe weather across the country affected the ability to build, ship and sell new product in January this year but there is confidence of continued growth in the coming months.

Wholesale RV shipments are expected to total 339,600 units by the end of 2014, a healthy increase of 5.7% over the 321,100 units shipped in 2013, according to Dr. Richard Curtin’s latest projection in the Spring 2013 issue of RV Roadsigns, RVIA’s quarterly forecast of RV deliveries to RV retailers.

The motorhome segment of the market is expected to rapidly expand by 14.3% to 43,900 units by year end. Towable RV shipments are expected to climb by 4.6% to 295,700 units.
