RV Shipments Climb Through First Half of 2014

The RV market continued to strengthen in the first half of 2014 with total RV wholesale shipments reaching 192,065 units through June, an increase of 9.8% over the 174,918 units shipped during the same time frame in 2013 according to RVIA’s June 2014 survey of manufacturers.

Towable RV shipments, representing 87.8% of all RVs manufactured, led the way in volume total with shipments reaching 168,737 units through June, an 8.6% gain over the 155,446 units shipped during the same six-month time frame in 2013. Conventional travel trailers remained the largest volume category reaching 119,861 units on 10.3% growth. Fifth wheels are up 8.4% to 41,245 units.

Meanwhile, motorhome shipments, accounting for 12.2% of the RV market, showed the largest percentage gain with the market segment up nearly 20% to 23,328 units compared to 19,472 units last year at the same point.  Type A motorhome shipments have climbed 22.7% to 11,274 units; type B motorhomes are up 43.8% to 1,595 units; and type C motorhomes have reached 10,459 units on 14% growth.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, shipments through June were at an annualized rate of more than 350,000 units, which is slightly ahead of the 349,400 unit projection for 2014 shipments by Dr. Richard Curtin in the Summer 2014 issue of RV Roadsigns, RVIA’s quarterly forecast of RV deliveries to RV retailers.
