RV Shipments Surge in January

Wholesale shipments of all RVs surged ahead in RVIA’s January 2013 survey of manufacturers, rising to 24,379 units. This increase was 30.5% greater than the total shipped during this same month last year.

Seasonally adjusted, January’s total was measured at annualized rate of more than 340,000 units, 12.2% better than the rate recorded in December 2012 and more than 30% better than the annualized rate recorded in January, one year ago.

Gains were seen in all vehicle categories with all, except for truck campers, having double-digit increases.

Towable RV shipments were up 30.3% to 21,802 units with travel trailers leading the way with a 35.3% rise to 15,368 units. Folding camping trailers gained 26.9% to 1,051 units; fifth wheel travel trailers rose to 5, 125 units on a 19.3% increase; and truck campers grew by 2.8% to 258 units.

Total motorhome shipments increased by 32.5% to 2,577 units. Type C motorhomes had the largest percentage gain of 38.6% to 1,037 units followed by type A motorhomes at 30.9% (1,369 units) and type B motorhomes at 13.2% (171 units).
