RV Shipments Climb Through First Quarter

The RV market continued to surge ahead in the first quarter of 2014 with total RV wholesale shipments reaching 89,971 units through March, an increase of 13.3% over the 79,422 units shipped during the same time frame in 2013, according to RVIA’s March 2014 survey of manufacturers.

The motorhome market has recorded the greater percentage gain for the year so far with total shipments for the segment gaining 30.9% to 11,125 units from the 8,500 units shipped through the first three months of 2013. Towable RVs have shown the biggest increase in total units, growing 11.2% from 70,922 units last year to 78,846 units this year.

March monthly shipments were reported at 33,678 units, a gain of more than 16% over the March 2013 total of 28,923 units to post the best March total for the RV market since 2007.

Wholesale RV shipments are expected to reach 339,600 units by the end of 2014, a healthy increase of 5.7% over the 321,100 units shipped in 2013, according to Dr. Richard Curtin’s latest projection in the Spring 2013 issue ofRV Roadsigns, RVIA’s quarterly forecast of RV deliveries to RV retailers.

The motorhome segment of the market is expected to rapidly expand by 14.3% to 43,900 units by year end. Towable RV shipments are expected to climb by 4.6% to 295,700 units.
