Summary

Results for the RV Industry Association’s February 2023 survey of manufacturers determined that total RV shipments ended the month with 26,326 wholesale shipments, down (-51.0%) from last February. To date, RV shipments are down (-56.4%) compared to the same timeframe last year at 46,731 units.

This month towable RVs accounted for 82.4% of the total monthly shipments with 21,687 units, down (-55.1%) from February 2022. Through two months, towable RVs are down (-61.0%) on 37,804 units. Motorhomes closed the month with 4,639 shipments, down (-15.9%) compared to last February. Year to date, motorhomes are down (-13.2%) with 8,927 shipments.

“With record high RV production through the first half of 2022, the industry has expected the year over year decreases we are seeing in our early reports for 2023,” said RV Industry Association President & CEO Craig Kirby. “Looking ahead to this year’s camping season, we’ve seen tremendous crowds at RV shows throughout the winter and early Spring, and the future is very bright considering the hundreds of thousands of younger and more diverse RVers who joined the lifestyle over the past few years.”

Towable RVs

Conventional travel trailers ended the month down (-58.2%) from last February with 16,109 shipments to retailers. Through February, conventional travel trailers are down (-63.1%) with 28,231 shipments. This month, conventional travel trailers accounted for 74.3% of all towable RV shipments and 61.2% of all RV shipments. Fifth-wheel travel trailers were down (-45.0%) compared to last February with 4,754 shipments. To date, fifth-wheel travel trailers are down (-55.3%) with 8,086 wholesale shipments. Folding camping trailers closed the month down (-23.4%) against last February on 529 shipments. Through February, folding camping trailers are down (-31.0%) with 945 units. Truck campers ended the month with 295 shipments, down (-25.1%) compared to February 2022. To date, truck campers are down (-32.8%) with 542 shipments.

Motorhomes

Type C motorhomes finished the month down (-10.6%) with 2,314 shipments and continued to lead the motorhome category in unit volume accounting for 49.9% of the monthly motorhome shipments. Through February, Type C motorhomes are down (-1.3%) with 4,679 shipments. Type B motorhomes closed the month down (15.2%) from last February with 1,348 shipments. To date, Type B motorhomes are down (-20.2%) with 2,343 units. Type A motorhomes ended the month down (27.2%) compared to February 2022 with 977 wholesale shipments. Through the first two months of the year, Type A motorhomes are down (-27.0%) with 1,905 shipments to retailers.
