House RV Caucus Spotlight: Representative Brian Babin

Nov 29, 2018

The House and Senate RV Caucus Members are the champions for the RV industry and RV lifestyle on Capitol Hill. These Members of Congress are champions for advocating on behalf of the RV industry on issues such as campground modernization, tax and trade issues. Here we feature one of the newest members of the House RV Caucus.

As a result of Advocacy Day this past summer, Representative Brian Babin of Texas’ 36th congressional district joined the House RV Caucus. Since joining, Babin has been a strong supporter of RV issues, including cosponsoring the Restore Our Parks and Public Lands Act. Babin’s district is also home to the Escapees RV Club, one of the largest RV owner clubs in the nation.

Originally from Port Arthur, Texas, Babin attended Lamar University and then served as an officer in the United States Air Force from 1975-1979. At the same time, he studied at the University of Texas Dental School, graduating with his D.D.S. in 1976. Among other things, he worked as a janitor, postman and country singer to pay for his tuition.

Before entering politics, Representative Babin started a general dental practice in Woodville, Texas. Upon feeling “demoralized” by President Jimmy Carter while stationed overseas, his first foray into politics was as part of the Ronald Reagan presidential campaign. He went on to work for Reagan’s re-election campaign, George H. W. Bush’s presidential campaign and George W. Bush’s campaign for governor of Texas.

On January 5, 2015, following a successful run to succeed Congressman Steve Stockman, Babin was sworn in to the 114th Congress. He serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology (NASA’s Johnson Space Center is in his district). Aside from the RV Caucus and numerous other caucuses, he is a member of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, Congressional Western Caucus, and Congressional Boating Caucus.

Welcome to the House RV Caucus, Representative Brian Babin!
