RV Industry Rallies Together For California To Safely Open RV Parks And Campgrounds

May 6, 2020

Amid growing pressure to ease the state’s stay-at-home order, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Monday that his plan for the state’s reopening will move forward into Phase 2 this Friday based on “the data says it can happen.”

Phase 2 of the plan allows for the return of retail, manufacturing and other “low-risk” businesses to begin opening if new physical-distancing measure are strictly implemented. What’s not included in the Stage 2 roll-out are campgrounds and RV parks. According to the California Pandemic Roadmap, California RV parks and campgrounds are not slated to reopen until Phase 3, along with “high-risk” environments such as hair and nail salons, gyms and movie theaters.

This week the RV Industry Association, National RV Dealers Association, the California RV Dealers Association, CampCalNOW’s RV Park and Campground Alliance, Visit California, CalTravel, the National Association of RV Parks and Campground, Kampground of America and Hytropy Disaster Management rallied together to reach out to their audiences and encourage RVers to tell state and local government officials in California to safely open RV parks and campgrounds in Phase 2 along with low-risk places that can promote social distancing. In just a few hours, nearly 4,000 letters have been sent to California officials to let them know that campgrounds have the ability to amend operations to ensure they follow social distancing guidelines.

As states began to initiate their plans to reopen, the RV Industry Association will continue to stay on top of the decisions being made and its impact on the industry and RVers who are looking to recreate responsibly.
