Senator Blake Doriot Receives RV Industry Association National Legislative Award

During the National Conference of State Legislatures’ annual Legislative Summit last week in Boston, the RV Industry Association Government Affairs team presented the annual National Legislative Award to Indiana State Senator Blake Doriot (R-IN) for his tireless support and advocacy of the RV industry. 

In 2020, Senator Doriot sponsored Senate Concurrent Resolution 15, urging the establishment of an Office of Outdoor Recreation Development within the Indiana Destination Development Corporation. Later that year as the COVID pandemic spread, he worked to ensure that campgrounds would be treated as “essential businesses” and would be allowed to open prior to Memorial Day and stay open during the pandemic.

He was also the Senate sponsor of House Bill 1059 which provided that for sales of RVs, the retail tax rate is the rate of the reciprocal state in which the RV will be titled or registered. He has also supported legislation that would expand this sales tax exemption to the other states which do not have reciprocity with Indiana on sales taxes on RVs.

Additionally, Senator Doriot sponsored legislation to clarify the treatment of transport workers, enabling the industry to reduce the backlogs of inventory moving from factories to dealers.

Throughout the fall and early winter of 2024, he worked with the RV Industry Association and the RV Dealers Association to put together legislation based on the RV Industry Association-RV Dealers Association model RV-specific franchise bill, which he introduced as Senate Bill 484. He guided this legislation through both the Senate and House, where it received nearly unanimous approval and was signed into law by Governor Braun in early April.
