RV Industry Association’s Standards team offers educational resources and hands-on training to help manufacturer member companies successfully comply with safety codes and regulations such as the National Fire Protection Association 1192 and the National Electric Code.

“These trainings help the manufacturers better understand the standard and its intent,” explains RV Industry Association Inspector Nate Tressler. “The lessons also allow us to explain what inspectors look for during inspections and answer any questions, helping to ensure safer and more consistent RV production.”

Last month, the RV Industry Association Standards Department led a training session at Forest River. The first day’s lessons covered 120-volt, plumbing, low-voltage, and fuel systems, while the second day reviewed fuel systems and fire and life safety. The training was led by Tressler, Senior Inspector Kyle VanTassel, and Chief Inspector Greg Wischmeyer.

On both days, 25 Forest River employees were in attendance, eager to engage with the material. “They asked many pertinent questions along the way, with at least one resulting in a handbook update proposal being drafted,” says VanTassel. “They are a very good, attentive group and responded well to the questions included in the training.”

Standards

The RV Industry Association’s Standards department is its greatest member benefit. With its team of professional, full-time inspectors, the Standards department promotes the enhancement of safety by monitoring adherence to the standards adopted by the Board of Directors for the construction of RVs and Park Model RVs. The team conducts more than 2,000 inspections of member company RV manufacturing plants annually.

Standards training can take place virtually or in person at the member’s location. The intended audiences for these training courses include production line workers, quality control, plant managers, and group leaders. Manufacturer member companies who are interested in scheduling a virtual or in-person training session can contact RV Industry Association Vice President of Standards Bryan Ritchie at britchie@rvia.org.
