United States and China Extend Section 301 Tariff Pause

On September 27, 2026, the United States and China announced a two-month extension of their trade truce, extending the current pause on certain tariff increases and trade restrictions from November 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027. The extension was announced during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States for meetings with President Donald Trump. The extension provides additional time for the two countries to continue trade negotiations.

As part of the agreement, the U.S.-China Board of Trade released reciprocal lists identifying $30 billion of non-sensitive products on each side that could receive reduced tariff treatment. The U.S. list, which includes 77 HTS lines, includes microwaves, but otherwise includes mainly consumer goods and some outdoor recreation products. The Chinese import list covers over 1000 subheadings and includes agricultural goods, seafood, wood products, cosmetics, and medical devices.
