Virtual Town Hall With U.S. Forest Service Chief And Deputy Chief

Aug 31, 2020

The RV Industry Association Virtual Town Hall planned for Wednesday, September 2, at 12pm ET will now be a conversation with the U.S. Forest Service Chief Vicki Christiansen and Deputy Chief Chris French. The discussion will focus on the passage of the Great American Outdoors Act and what it means for the U.S. Forest Service and RVers who love to visit our national forests.

Vicki Christiansen serves as Chief of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service, leading a workforce of more than 28,000 permanent employees who steward 193 million acres of national forests and grasslands; support the world’s largest forestry research organization; and work with states, tribes and others to sustain all forests so they can benefit all citizens, today and in the future. Over her 39-year career, she has accumulated a wealth of experience in natural resource and wildland fire management. Her commitment to the core values of the Forest Service, which are conservation, service, interdependence, diversity and safety, is evident in the priorities she sets for the agency. As Chief, Christiansen is leading agency efforts to improve the conditions of America’s forests and grasslands by modernizing how we do business to increase active forest management and deliver landscape conservation through shared stewardship with local, state and national partners and tribes. Christiansen’s focus on relationships inside and outside the agency is reflected in the Forest Service’s dedication to caring for the land, communities and the people we serve.

Chris French began his USDA career in 1991 on the Coronado National Forest in Arizona as volunteer in recreation. From there, he has worked in planning, NEPA, fire, fuels, wildlife, and recreation/wilderness. Prior to his current role, French served in several key Agency Leadership Positions including, Associate Deputy Chief, Director of Ecosystem Management Coordination, and Acting Director of Forest Management. As Acting Deputy Chief, he is responsible for national policy and oversight of the natural resource programs managing 193 million acres of National Forests and Grasslands.

“We are really looking forward to hearing from Chief Christiansen and Deputy Chief French on their vision and goals for addressing the maintenance backlog and campground modernization in the U.S. Forest Service,” said Jay Landers, RV Industry Association Vice President of Government Affairs. “Our team has been working very closely with the U.S. Forest Service and the Department of Agriculture and we are grateful for their leadership in increasing the access, safety, and enjoyment of RVers in our national forests.”
