States Make Major Investments In Outdoor Recreation

Dec 15, 2021

Outdoor recreation as a driver of state economies is being recognized by governors across the country. The RV Industry Association, along with our partners at the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable, have long been working in the different states to achieve recognition of the economic importance of outdoor recreation, particularly through the creation of Offices of Outdoor Recreation. The recently announced investments in outdoor recreation show that states recognize the importance of outdoor recreation in growing their economies and improving the well-being of its citizens.

Recent announcements include:

  • In California, Governor Gavin Newsom announced $548 million in grant funding to create 112 new and expanded parks in communities across the state.
  • In Kentucky, Governor Andy Beshear announced $5.3 million in investment through the American Rescue Plan to help the tourism industry promote travel and outdoor recreation across the state.
  • In Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board recommended that the legislature fund 117 recreation development and land acquisition projects totaling $45.6 million in 2022.
