Ben Hirsch: Driving the RV Industry Forward: Quality, Transparency, and the Power of AI

Aug 11, 2026

Ben HirschIn a wide-ranging fireside chat at the RV Aftermarket Conference, Campers Inn COO Ben Hirsch discussed the evolving landscape of the RV market, highlighting critical shifts in consumer expectations, supply chain management, and technological innovation. Below are some key takeaways from the conversation with RV Aftermarket Committee Chair John Tinghitella.

1. Supply Chain, Production, and Quality Control

Issues can arise when manufacturing plants are turned on and off due to poor signals across the supply chain.

  • Better Data Sharing: To protect the customer experience, the industry should implement synchronized data sharing to ensure the right volume of RVs, parts, and accessories trickle smoothly through the supply chain.
  • Core Priorities: Success hinges on balancing four interconnected areas: quality, service capacity, transparency, and supply chain alignment.

2. Eliminating Friction to Enhance Customer Experience

The modern consumer benchmarks their purchasing experience not against other RV brands, but against frictionless digital services like Amazon, as well as alternative discretionary spending options such as cruises, boats, and golf memberships.

  • Re-evaluating "Magnetic Pull": Often, what feels like customer loyalty is actually friction. Such as customers returning to a dealership simply because information is difficult to find elsewhere.
  • Cultural Shift: Companies should focus on building a customer-first culture. At Campers Inn, every employee is trained on customer experience role-playing and empowered with financial guidelines to resolve customer issues without needing managerial approval.
  • Long-Term Strategy: Industry policies should continuously ask, "Is it right for the customer?" Focusing solely on short-term dealer margins over long-term customer satisfaction risks turning products into mere commodities.

3. The Role of Artificial Intelligence and Data Transparency

As search behavior shifts from traditional search engines toward AI-driven search tools, structured and accessible data will determine market visibility.

  • Frictionless Research: Consumers will increasingly use AI to match specific needs, getting instant answers on finding replacement parts for a specific make, model, and year.
  • Optimizing for AI: Suppliers and aftermarket businesses should publish comprehensive product data, including compatible SKUs, make/model years, and alternative components, outside of firewalls so AI crawlers can easily index it.
  • Streamlining Service with AI: Future service capacities could rely on AI-to-AI handoffs, with a dealership's warranty AI communicating directly with an OEM's AI agent. Technicians could use voice-to-text and image recognition to draft warranty claims instantly, drastically reducing repair cycle times.
