Commerce Announces Final Results Of Canadian Softwood Lumber Antidumping Review
On Friday, July 25, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced its final decision in its review of the antidumping duty order on softwood lumber from Canada. The decision raises antidumping duties on most Canadian lumber imports to 20.56 percent. The review covers imports of softwood lumber from Canada that entered the United States from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023.
This hike nearly triples the antidumping duty rate, which was set at 7.66 percent, and is in addition to the current countervailing duties of 6.74 percent. In its press release, Commerce said that the U.S. determined that Canadian softwood lumber was being dumped into the U.S. at a rate of up to 35.53 percent.
Administrative reviews are conducted yearly at the request of an interested party after an antidumping or countervailing duty order takes effect. Commerce will now instruct U.S. Customs and Border Protection to begin collecting duties at the rates outlined in Commerce’s final results. Commerce is scheduled to announce the final decision in the administrative review of the countervailing duty order, covering calendar year 2023, on August 8, 2025.
