RV Owner Demographics: An Overview Of Adventure Seekers

Jul 28, 2021

The Go RVing RV Owner Demographic Profile is the most comprehensive study of RV ownership ever conducted, providing deep insights and perspectives on the demographics and ownership habits of RV Owners, Former RV Owners, and RV Intenders. The study identified seven distinct clusters based on RV owners’ unique motivations, needs, and habits.

The “Adventure Seekers” cluster may only make up 1% of RVers, but they’re very dedicated to the RV lifestyle! They use their RV on average 200 days each year and 71% of their vacation time involves an RV. When they’re on the road, the Adventure Seekers tend to stay at a private campground (63%) while others stay on private land (52%) and a smaller number stay at informal campsites (26%). Although summer remains the most popular season to hit the road (84%), it’s closely followed by spring (78%) and fall (78%), and winter is also a fairly popular time to travel for this cluster (66%).

Popular hobbies for them include outdoor sports, motor sports, and winter sports. Unsurprisingly, some of this cluster’s biggest motivations to go RVing include adding adventure and excitement to their life, controlling their own itineraries, and spending time outdoors in nature.

In terms of demographics, 34% are age 35-54 and 56% are ages 55+. 53% are female and 47% are male, and 19% live with no children in the home. 50% of those in this cluster are retired, and 53% of those still in the workforce make over $65,000.

There are three remaining clusters that we will be exploring in the coming weeks. Check out our overview of the clusters here.
