RV Technical Institute Focusing On Recruiting RV Technicians

Aug 4, 2021

The RV Technical Institute is the gold standard when it comes to RV technician training, providing the only industry-backed training curriculum and RV technician certification and career path. While training today’s current RV technicians is a significant focus of RVTI, the team is also hyper-focused on recruiting new people into the RV technician field.

At the current time, these recruitment efforts are concentrated on three populations that show tremendous potential to become future RV technicians: high schoolers, trade school students, and soon-to-be-released prisoners.

The RV Technical Institute has been working with high schools across the country to spread the word about an RV technician career path. Recently, in July 2021, the RV Technical Institute was in Las Vegas, NV, for the American School Counselor Association Annual Conference. Approximately 3,500–4,000 school counseling professionals, including K-12 school counselors, college professors, graduate students, and school counseling supervisors, were in attendance.

During the event, RVTI and Authorized Learning Partner, Camping World, emphasized the opportunities the RV industry offers to high schoolers not seeking a traditional four-year college degree. Discussions included implementation of the RVTI training program in public schools, allowing high school students graduates across the country to enter the workforce with a Level 1 certification.

In addition to their work with school counselors, the RV Technical Institute is also planning to attend the National Future Farmers of America conference this October in Indianapolis, IN. The event offers an opportunity to talk directly with high school students about the career path of an RV technician.

The efforts to recruit RV technicians are also underway at trade schools such as Jones Technical Institute (J-Tech). Based in Jacksonville, FL, J-Tech has access to the RV Technical Institute’s curriculum for its Marine & RV Technology Program and is preparing students for a career in the RV industry. Partnerships with trade schools produce high-quality technicians and offers graduates employment opportunities across the RV Industry. The Institute is looking to continue establishing similar relationships with trade schools across the country. This learning partner also accepts VA benefits for Veterans.

The RV Technical Institute is also establishing programs among the prison population. In particular, the Institute has a presence in Windham School District in Texas and the Indiana Westville Correctional Facility. In the former, ten women serving sentences at the Linda Woodman State Jail in Gatesville have successfully trained to become RV technicians under a Texas Department of Criminal Justice pilot program. Program graduates are working with local RV dealers to find employment.

Likewise, at the Indiana Westville Correctional Facility, industry experts from across the RV industry identified the key areas of required knowledge and expertise needed to develop a well-rounded, practical training and certification program. Graduates of this program could also participate in the Hoosier Initiative for Re-Entry (HIRE) program, which offers job readiness training.

Going forward, RV Technical Institute will continue these recruitment efforts and establish partnerships with organizations and schools. Organizations interested in becoming an Authorized Learning Partner can find out more on RVTI’s website.
