About the Role:

The State Legislative Associate supports the RV Industry Association’s advocacy agenda by monitoring and analyzing state legislation and regulations through tracking software and other resources. Reporting to the Director, State Affairs, this position is responsible for the timely identification, tracking, and analysis of state policy developments aligned with the RV Industry Association’s priorities.

The Associate provides concise updates and reports to the State Affairs team, Vice President, and members, while also contributing to advocacy materials, grassroots efforts, and broader Government Affairs initiatives. This is a dynamic role offering opportunities to support direct lobbying efforts and contribute to the success of the RV Industry Association’s state advocacy program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, track, and analyze state legislation impacting the RV industry using tracking software and other tools.
  • Provide concise summaries and recommendations on legislative developments.
  • Support bill management for staff lobbyists, ensuring timely updates and accurate reporting.
  • Draft written materials to support advocacy activities, including policy briefs, talking points, and member updates.
  • Assist with state advocacy initiatives such as meetings, hearings, coalition activities, and grassroots engagements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with RV Industry Association members, state policymakers, coalition partners, and contract lobbyists.
  • Conduct research and contribute to special projects supporting Association goals.
  • Provide administrative and project support to the State Affairs team.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, government affairs, or related field (required).
  • Experience:
    • 1–3 years of experience in legislative affairs, state government, or trade association policy work.
    • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills with the ability to synthesize complex legislation into concise summaries.
    • Critical reading and thinking skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for engaging with members, policymakers, and coalition partners.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
    • Familiarity with Quorum or other state legislative and regulatory tracking tools.
    • Experience with grassroots efforts is a plus.
    • Commitment to teamwork and advancing the RV Industry Association’s advocacy goals.

Additional Information

  • This position requires extended hours during peak state legislative periods (January–May) and active participation in RVs Move America Week and Advocacy Day in Washington, DC each June. Some domestic travel is required for industry events, member visits, PAC fundraisers, and national conferences such as the NCSL Legislative Summit.
