About the Role:
The Manager, State Affairs plays a critical role in leading state-level advocacy initiatives that affect the $140 billion RV industry. This position focuses on key legislative issues such as PFAS and other chemicals of concern, transportation, housing, and manufacturer/dealer franchise regulations.
In this role, you’ll engage directly with policymakers, state legislators, and industry stakeholders to influence outcomes through lobbying, coalition engagement, and public testimony. You’ll work closely with RV Industry Association members, internal teams, and contract lobbyists to implement coordinated, impactful advocacy strategies that protect and advance the RV industry’s interests at the state level.
This role requires regular travel during legislative season and throughout the year for industry events.
Key Responsibilities
- Lobby state policymakers in support of RV Industry Association’s legislative priorities.
- Analyze and track state legislation, especially in the areas of chemicals of concern, PFAS, transportation, housing, and manufacturer/dealer franchise law.
- Identify and evaluate emerging policy issues and recommend proactive strategic responses.
- Prepare advocacy materials including bill summaries, alerts, talking points, public comments, and testimony.
- Present testimony at hearings and lead stakeholder engagement during bill negotiations.
- Coordinate cross-functional advocacy strategies with RV Industry Association departments, member companies, and contract lobbyists.
- Cultivate bipartisan relationships with state legislators, executive branch officials, and industry allies.
- Lead Association working groups and coalitions on key issue areas such as PFAS and chemicals of concern.
- Develop educational content on priority issues for internal and external audiences.
- Represent the RV Industry Association at key national events such as the National Conference of State Legislatures Legislative Summit.
- Ensure lobbying compliance and reporting under applicable state laws.
- Support the Vice President, Senior Director, and Director, State Affairs on broader policy initiatives and special projects.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, or a related field required
- Experience:
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in state government affairs, public policy, or lobbying, ideally within a trade association, lobbying firm, or state legislature
- Strong background in public policy analysis, state lobbying, and strategic advocacy
- Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to distill complex issues into clear advocacy messages
- Strong relationship-building and bipartisan negotiation capabilities
- Critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate legislation and political dynamics
- Experience working independently and collaboratively in dynamic environments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom, and legislative tracking tools (e.g., Quorum, FiscalNote, State Net)
- Ability to thrive in a remote work setting with diverse stakeholders
Additional Information
This is a hybrid position with regular travel expectations, especially during state legislative sessions (typically January–May) and for industry conferences and events. Occasional evening and weekend availability is required during peak periods.
