Staff Attorney

About the Role:
As the Staff Attorney, you will provide legal support and services across all departments of the RV Industry Association, with a focus on contracts, regulatory affairs, industry standards, and legal research. You’ll serve as a trusted resource on federal regulatory matters, particularly those related to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). You’ll also support the review of public relations, marketing, educational, and advertising materials; assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a range of business and vendor contracts; and act as a liaison between the association and industry legal counsel.
This role offers a unique in-house opportunity to practice law in a collaborative trade association environment where your work directly supports the industry and its members.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal support for federal and state legislative and regulatory initiatives.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various business and vendor contracts.
- Advise on NHTSA and FMVSS-related matters impacting the RV industry.
- Support the development, maintenance, and enforcement of technical standards.
- Review public relations, marketing, and advertising materials for legal accuracy.
- Conduct legal research and draft opinions, contracts, and policy language.
- Offer guidance to relevant stakeholders on governance-related matters.
- Act as a liaison with industry legal counsel on shared matters.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with a state bar (Virginia preferred but not required)
- Experience:
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a practicing attorney in relevant areas of law
- Preferred experience includes contract negotiation, regulatory analysis, government affairs, and legal writing
- Experience interacting with state and federal agencies is a plus
- Skills:
- Excellent legal research and writing capabilities
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to efficiently work independently while collaborating effectively across teams
- Clear and confident verbal and written communication
- Proficient interpersonal and teamwork skills
Additional Information
- This position may require occasional travel (10-15%) for industry events, meetings, and conferences throughout the year.
